Questions

What exactly is removed?

The Exif block (GPS position, date taken, camera model, serial number, owner), XMP, IPTC and comments. The picture itself and its color profile stay.

Does removing the data reduce photo quality?

Not for JPG and PNG: the extra data is cut out and the pixels are not touched. A photo that is stored rotated is redrawn upright, and a JPG is then saved again.

Which files work?

JPG and PNG are cleaned in place. WebP and other formats your browser can open are redrawn and saved as JPG. Up to 20 photos at a time, 60 MB each.

Is my photo uploaded to check its location?

No. The data is read and removed on this page. Only the optional map link opens an outside site, and it sends the coordinates there, so use it only if you are fine with that.
