Questions
What size should my source image be?
Use a square picture of at least 512 x 512 px. Other shapes work too, but the center is cut to a square. Small pictures make the large icons look soft.
Which files do I get and where do they go?
favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 px), two PNG tab icons, a 180 px Apple touch icon, and 192 and 512 px icons for Android. Put them in the root folder of your site and paste the code into the head of each page.
Why add a background or padding?
A transparent icon can disappear against a dark browser tab. A solid background fixes that, and padding keeps your logo clear of the rounded corners iPhones add to home screen icons.
Is my logo uploaded anywhere?
No. The icons are made on this page and your image stays on your device.
