  2. Enter each measurement. Round shapes can use the radius or the diameter.
  3. Read the volume and surface area, plus litres and US gallons.

Questions

Which formulas are used for the solids?

Box: length times width times height. Cylinder: pi times radius squared times height. Sphere: four thirds of pi times radius cubed. Cone and pyramid: one third of base area times height.

What does the surface area include?

All outer faces. For a cylinder, cone or hemisphere that includes the flat base, and for the pyramid the rectangular base and four sloping faces.

How do litres and gallons come from the volume?

The volume is converted to cubic metres, and one cubic metre is 1,000 litres. A US gallon is 3.785411784 litres. Use the same unit for every measurement.
